PRODUCT DETAILS
Cobra chassis # CSX 2438 was shipped to Hi-Performance in Los Angeles, California in 1964 when it was new.
This vehicle has WSW tires, a luggage rack delete, and the original knock-off magnesium wheels. Shelby America sold it to an anonymous buyer in Inglewood, CA. This buyer subsequently added the hard top with the side curtains and a set ofTalbot side mirrors. Driven for about a year, the owner brought it to Shelby and had a full 289 race engine installed along with a competition clutch, scatter shield drag headers, and an Alloy oil pan. In the early 1970s, an oil cooler, oil cooler scoop, and the wide body flares were added by Shelby at the factory. Note this originally a narrow-body vehicle with the wide-body flares added after production, though by Shelby themselves. Ownership changed hands at Auction in 1987 to a second anonymous buyer, who retained ownership of the car for approximately one year, then selling it to a third owner in 1988. This owner brought the car to SAAC-13 (Shelby America Automotive Club), at the time logging 15,300 miles on the clock.
1990-01 it underwent an entire restoration and was painted red, with a black leather interior. A hood scoop was added along with the F.I.A. Halibrands and Weber carburetors.
The vehicle was purchased by its current owner in 2007, who has meticulously cared for, and enjoyed the vehicle.
All maintenance is current and documented, there is a current mileage report of 16,XXX. There have been no other modifications. The engine has a documented re-stamp by Shelby Factory per the original upgrades.
Please Note The current owner substituted the original 4-Speed with Tremec 5-speed manual transmission; for continued road use with better-gearing and drivability. The original matching factory transmission was saved and are available for replacement by Redline Restorations or as a "spare" at time of sale
